Cereal boxes, gift cards, ice cream bars, beer boxes, toilet paper rolls, old plastic bags, oh my! We can’t wait to break into our newest bag of recyclables! These items are just waiting to be turning into something special! Please check back with us over the coming weeks and months to see what we make of this mess!

This project was picked for the upcoming Encinitas Environment Day Exhibit at the library! Created front the previously shown image… here the cylindrical paper rolls create movement and a flow that isn’t possible when working in 2-dimensions. The added mechanisms allow for rotation, which enable the viewer to see the whole surface as it was, when created. This fun sculptural piece was created almost entirely from waste materials. It’s amazing what you can create from a little trash!

I was so excited to read in the local paper that the Encinitas Library will be mounting an exhibit themed “Reuse, Reinvent, Recycle“… isn’t that our motto! I immediately went online and downloaded an application… after spending the weekend working on a new piece which I might submit! I got the idea from the little rolls I was working on. It started late last year when I got a-bee-in-my-bonnet about recycling toilet paper rolls. (I had done a toilet paper roll project back in high school! In 1974!!!) This time around I am not only recycling the roll but everything that goes on it. I collage and paint and seal! They are all little gems. No two alike. Maybe I am totally nuts, but I think they are really beautiful! So, now I am going to attemp creating giant versions… in hopes of getting into this exhibit!
